Yeoju: King Sejong the Great's Tomb

There were two places that mom wanted to check out in Yeoju, number one being King Sejong's Tomb.  So we spent the day there.  It was a beautiful day, with wonderful sun but cold.

Enjoy!

The sundials, and astrological instruments that King Sejong was famous for promoting and using.  He was the scholar king, after all.

Inside the museum were pictures of the conquests of the Joseon Empire during King Sejong's reign.  They also had photos of the scholastic pursuits that King Sejong promoted and encouraged.

The proclamation of Hangul!  It is an illustration showing when King Sejong announced the new Korean alphabet.  It was a huge party!

Going to the tomb.

This is the marker, showing that it is indeed King Sejong barred here.

The hilltop tomb.

The rituals building, which is used to make offerings to the king and his queen.

This gate signifies the entrance into a sacred place, once you cross under the gate, you are on sacred land.
