It is official, I am renting a house for the first time in a foreign country under my own name!! Last Saturday I went to Siheung to apartment hunt. Previously I had told you all about the girl student from my school who was leaving her apartment, I checked that one out and two other apartments.
The first apartment was called Pine Hill. Pine Hill is about 10 minutes walking distance from my workplace, and really close to Lotte Mart (a supermarket). It was a one room (studio) apartment, with everything included. The bathroom was nice and clean, with a separate shower (WIN). The room was decent size, with a large window. On the downside, there was no green area for Trixie and the kitchen was in the main living space and not off to the side. Price wise it wasn't bad, 400,000 won per month, with a 5,000,000 won deposit.
The second apartment was a real apartment complex, with playgrounds and families. Due to it being a real apartment, it did not come with any appliances. It was a nice space and the kitchen was off to the side, but with having to get appliances and everything for a new apartment, it just wasn't right for me, even with the 350,000 won per month price.
The final apartment was Royal Officetel (apartments and businesses in the same building). The apartment complex that the student was living in. It was the same price as Pine Hill but a much closer walk to work, at about 5 minutes. Unlike Pine Hill, this apartment was a one room loft type, not a normal loft that we often think of but a small area above that you cannot stand in but you could fit a bed and sleep comfortably. You walk into the apartment and it is a small hall way leading to the bathroom on the left, and the main room ahead. It had a large window, like Pine Hill, and the kitchen was in the main living space. However, there are doors that you can close so you cannot see the kitchen, if you are not using it. It was smaller than Pine Hill but the loft was a nice bonus space because I can have a dedicated sleeping room.
So, I am sure you are asking, which one did I pick...well you will have to wait and see! ;)
